Slurry pump FAQ

What is a slurry pump used for?

A slurry pump is a type of pump designed for pumping liquid containing solid particles.

What is a “slurry”?

Slurry is any mixture of fluid, like water, and a pulverized solid. Slurries are used as a convenient way to handle solids in bulk in mining, steel processing, foundries, power generation, and most recently, the Frac Sand mining industry. Slurries generally behave the same way as thick, viscous fluids, flowing under gravity, but also pumped as needed.

Below are common characteristics of slurries:

▪ Abrasive

▪ Thick consistency

▪ Can contain a high amount of solids

▪ Usually settle quickly

▪ Require more power to operate than a “water” pump

How to select a suitable slurry pump?

Selecting the right pump for slurries is critical to get the most bang for your buck.

Frankly the most common slurry pump is the centrifugal pump, and we have several series as below:

▪ MAH horizontal slurry pump(motor/diesel drive)

▪ MG horizontal gravel pump(motor/diesel drive)

▪ MSS submersible slurry pump(motor/hydraulic drive)

According your projects to advise the most suitable solutions is what we good at.

Can you pump sand?

Yes, all of our slurry pumps designed for sand/slurries dredging specially.

How does a slurry pump work?

The Working Principle of a slurry pump is that slurry enters the pump through the channel of the rotating impeller which imparts a circular motion. The pumps increase the pressure of a liquid and solid particles with the help of centrifugal force and convert electric energy into kinetic energy to pump the slurry.

How far can you pump slurry?

Slurry can be pumped to a maximum distance of 3km.
